Mid-Year Check-In: Stay on Track to Meet Your 2019 Goals

Though it’s hard to believe, half of 2019 is already behind us. Hopefully, at the start of the year, you set some goals for yourself. Whether they were vague New Year’s resolutions, or you had an ambitious plan of attack using the S.M.A.R.T. goals plan outline we shared with you back in January, it’s gut check time. As you reflect on how you’re doing at this mid-way point of 2019, here are some simple ways to be sure you stay on track and achieve your goals over the next six months.

The first step to moving forward is looking back. What were your specific goals when you set them? How much have you progressed since the date you made them? Perhaps you’re right on track or even ahead of where you thought you’d be at this point. On the other hand, there’s a chance you’ve actually backtracked. It happens. Either way, it’s important to reflect and see what you wanted to accomplish and where you are today.

For each goal, write down some notes.

If you HAVE NOT made progress:

Why do you think that is? What’s getting in the way of you accomplishing your goal? This is a great time to break it down and make it more attainable. Using the S.M.A.R.T. goals plan, update your goal. Maybe you were too ambitious and instead of reaching for the stars you need to start your journey with smaller steps. Or maybe you simply need to recommit to your plan. You still have six months to make progress — and there’s a lot you can accomplish in that amount of time!

If you HAVE made progress and are on track or almost there:

Give yourself a pat on the back. That’s awesome! Take a minute to think about what you’ve done to ensure your success. Do you want to stick with your plan? After all, you’re committed to this goal and that’s something to feel great about. Or maybe this an opportunity to step up your goal or add on some new ones. Sometimes once you have positive momentum behind you, you realize you underestimated your abilities or mental strength and can raise the bar a bit higher.

This mid-year check-in is an extra opportunity to give yourself what you need to forge into the second half of the year with your head held high and your priorities set. Whether you’re looking to keep working toward your goals, redefine your goals, or even reach for bigger goals, this is a great place to start. You have a whole six months ahead to work your magic.
