My fitness journey started with a roller coaster — and not a metaphorical one. I went to get on a ride with my friends, and at over 300 pounds (and just 5’7” tall), I didn’t fit. I knew it was time to make a change. Now, whenever I need motivation, I remember where I was when I started, and visualize where I want to be in the future.
About 10 years ago, I reached a career crossroads. I was in between jobs and decided that I wanted to spend my time — and career — doing something I truly loved. I wanted to help people have fun while getting in shape. That’s what’s so great about Gixo. With the variety of classes available, everyone can find their “thing”. Mine happens to be kickboxing and weights, of course!
These days, I spend so much of my time teaching group classes, I prefer to do my personal workouts alone. I clock an hour about five-to-six days a week. Since I typically work out very early in the morning, I don’t tend to eat prior to exercising, but I grab a little protein after.
To those of you out there getting started, I say start small. Give it what you can, and slowly build up.
Be sure to ask Medwin about his superpower next time you’re in class with him. Chances are, this retired ring fighter will surprise you!
