People who consider themselves runners, well, they know that running has changed their lives. People who don’t consider themselves runners, on the other hand, sometimes can’t even begin to believe that it could have the same impact on them. But the truth is, everyone has the potential to become a runner, it’s just a matter of finding the style that suits you.
There are any number of reasons you might want to consider adding walking and running into your workout. It’s true that weight loss, muscular endurance, joint strength, heart health, blood pressure, lung breathing, and increased energy are all great reasons to get moving. (And we can’t help but think great music and live coaching are added bonuses when it comes to the Gixo approach.) But with different options, how do you decide what approach to running best fits your body and goals?
With so many people asking our coaches that very question, we decided to create a breakdown of our Gixo workouts and a bit of information to help you find the ones that will forge your path to success. Whether you’re just getting started with cardio exercise or training for an upcoming marathon event, we have classes that meet your needs.
To start, here’s a closer look at the spectrum of walking, running, and treadmill classes offered in the app.
When you look at this breakdown and consider which ones might be right for you, here are a few things to keep in mind:
The Benefits of Social / Music-Themed Running Classes
Let’s be real. Music is a powerful driving force and motivation while working out. Especially if you’re new to running. Not only does our in-house DJ Kenny O constantly mix up new and exciting tunes that get you movin’ and groovin’, these classes are designed for all fitness levels. Our live coaches keep you motivated and educated on how to improve your running form. And once you’ve found your beat, you can turn up the tunes and take it at your own pace.
The Benefits of Endurance Running Classes
If you’re aiming to train for a 5K, 10K, or other endurance event, you’ll want to go the distance to improve your endurance and stamina. Endurance classes are also typically referred to as tempo runs, and consist of one long steady-state endurance pace that lasts anywhere from 13 minutes to 38 minutes in duration. Don’t sweat it. While that might sound like a long haul, our coaches and music make the time fly and motivate you to go further than you’d imagined. There’s no better feeling than watching the live stats dial fill up with green as you complete the outlined endurance distance.
The Benefits of Intervals Running Classes
Are you someone who enjoys variation in pace and speed to keep things interesting throughout your workout? If so, intervals are the perfect type of cardio for you. These workouts are similar to fartlek training — using a mixture of low-moderate and high-intensity segments — and also include personalized goal distances based on how fast you move. Intervals are a great way to increase your VO2 Max- the defining metric of cardiorespiratory fitness which indicates your body’s ability to efficiently utilize oxygen.
The Benefits of Speed Running Classes
Whether you are a sprinter, long-distance runner, or someone who simply wants to lace up for a speedy workout to push your limits, this is a great place for you to focus. Sprinting is beneficial for everyone — it helps build muscular strength and power, so that you can actually run faster. And if you think that as a long-distance runner sprinting won’t help you, think again. Sprints actually condition your body to run a further distance without fatiguing as quickly, and will help you extend your regular run times. Plus, you’re burning calories in class AND out of class due to EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) by revving your heart rate up sky high. And with Gixo, your coach will be there to help you pace your sprints so you have less to think about.
The Benefits of Race Events
If you’re planning to incorporate running into your routine, we highly suggest having a goal in mind when you get started. That’s what inspired our Gixo special race events, including the virtual 5K. This gives you the chance to work up to a specific distance, then race on the leaderboard to reach the finish line. Everyone celebrates with virtual confetti and a serious sense of accomplishment. Having coaches guide and cheer you on every step of the way not only keeps you accountable, it steps up the fun factor.
Now that you’ve got a better idea of what type of cardio might be your speed, know that Gixo is here to help you every step of the way. Your health and fitness goals matter to us, and we will answer questions and help you fine-tune your approach as you go. We can’t wait to hear what cardio sessions get you moving!
Note: You can find all these workouts in the Running, Walking, and Treadmill sections in the Gixo app.
