The Importance of Stretching, Warm Ups, and Cool Downs
Here’s an experiment for you: Put a rubber band in the freezer. After five minutes, pull it out and try to stretch it. Nine times out of ten, that sucker’s gonna snap on you. Ouch! But that same rubber band left out in a warm room? It’s soft and pliable — so stretching it is no problem, right? Now imagine that your muscles are rubber bands. That proper pre-exercise warmup seems a bit more important, doesn’t it?
Putting cold muscles through a workout is an injury waiting to happen. But by stretching out, as well as cooling down those well-used muscles at the end of your workout, you increase your flexibility and help ward off post-workout soreness.

At Gixo, every workout we offer (even short ones like The Quickie!) has a built-in warmup and cooldown period. For example, you’ll often start off doing some warriors to warm up your lower body, limbering up your hip flexors and hamstrings (among other things). And that delicious toe touch in the cooldown is worth the price of admission.
So please, do yourself a favor. Don’t skip your warmups and cooldowns! It’s well worth a few minutes of your time — and your body will thank you later.
